    Aidar. An essay on geographical and historical associations.

  Aidar. An essay on geographical and historical associations.

  What geographical features are called "Aidar"?

  Firstly, these are water bodies - a river, a left tributary of the Seversky Donets, and a lake in the area of the Syrdarya River.

  Secondly, these are settlements (with the name "Aidar" and with names similar in sound and spelling).

  The distribution of these geographical objects on the map is noteworthy.

  From the Aidar River and settlements with the name "Aidar" in the Seversk land, we move our attention east - to the settlement Aidyrlinsky in the Orenburg oblast (near the border with Kazakhstan), and then we look even further east: Lake Aidarkul (Uzbekistan, in the region of Syr Darya River).

  Interesting route (if it is a route).

  Having received a certain amount of initial information, we turn to the Explanatory Dictionary of Vladimir Dal.

  The dictionary is helpful as always. But this time it doesn't give much information.

  "Айдар, Aidar, ... - round Cossack haircut, under the top, under-forelock..., not in a bracket...."

  A haircut is unlikely to give a name to a geographical feature.

  An attempt to get more information from the Dictionary of Vladimir Dal leads to the conclusion that a aidar is a warrior. And not just a warrior, but a skilled warrior. Or a daredevil.

  But how to move from "warrior" to place names?

  I remember a children's writer with a pseudonym "Gaidar". This pseudonym was explained to readers: "Gaidar is a rider galloping ahead."

  [Aidar is a Turkic male name.
  Aidar - forelock...; hairstyle of nomadic Turks, ancient Kazakhs and others]

  Such a definition gives to a warrior, to a skilled war, to a daredevil, a romantic connotation - but how could a geographical name be formed?

  A lot of brave and skillful warriors (some of whom galloped ahead) visited water bodies, certain places - and this was the basis for the emergence of a geographical name?

  From a children's writer with the pseudonym "Gaidar" the thought moves to a political figure with the name "Heydar". Having opened his biography, we read: "... he was called Heydar. In Russian, this means - Going ahead, Leader (Ruler).

  This option seems close to the truth - if we agree with the logical line "Aydar - Gaidar - Heydar - Leader (Ruler)." ["Айдар - Гайдар - Гейдар - Предводитель"]

  [Aidar (Kaz. Aidar, Bashk. Aihar, Tat. Aidar, Chuvash. Aitar) is a male name common among some Turkic peoples (Tatars, Kazakhs, Kirghiz, Nogais, Bashkirs, etc.)

  The word is originally of Turkic origin, comes from the word "Ay" (moon). The Turkic languages also have the word "aydar", meaning forelock on the head of a Turkic warrior.

  "aydarly keshe/kishi" - a respected, worthy, prominent man; not abusing the power given from above.

  "Khaidar" - "lion" (from Nogai).

  Lunar, with features of the month. "Ay" (from Turkic) - the moon

  Aidar is a Kazakh name, translated from Kazakh - beautiful, worthy, highly respected, beloved by everyone, superior, owning the world, cool, thieves. Most often, this name is used to refer to the officers and watchers.

  Aidar - in Kazakh language - forelock. ] [unofficial translation]

  [Aidar - the king of the Volga Bulgaria of the early period (the end of the 8th century - 865)
  Aidar (XV century) - Horde prince, son-in-law of Khan Ulu-Mohammed.
  Aidar (XV century) - Crimean Khan in 1475, son of the Crimean Khan Azi Giray.] [unofficial translation]

  The leader - at a time when cavalry troops played a major role - was located (on a permanent basis) by the lake. The lake was named "Lake Aidarkul". In relative proximity to the lake is located the village of Aydarly (in Kazakhstan, not far from the city of Kyzyl-Orda). [Aydarly is [the another] village in Almaty Region of south-eastern Kazakhstan.]

  The leader [ruler] of the cavalry troops that arrived in the Seversk land was located near the river. This river was named "Aidar".

  Settlements either received the name as the parking lot of the Leader (Ruler), or a little later - from water bodies.

  It was not so often that the local population had information about where a military leader was stationed. Especially if large arrays of cavalry troops were moving. So geographical objects with the name "Aidar" are represented on the map with moderate frequency.

  [Aidar - river, left tributary of the Seversky Donets;
  Aidar is a village in the Karatal district of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan;
  Aidar - abolished village in the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan;
  Aidar - a village in the Rovensky district of the Belgorod region of Russia;
  Aidar - the former name of the disappeared village Bogatoye in the Saki region of Crimea;
  Aidar-Nikolaevka is a village in the Lugansk region.] [unofficial translation]

  This time, the Explanatory Dictionary of Vladimir Dal was useful, but it had a secondary, auxiliary value. I had to recall the biography of the political figure.
