A useful skill - the ability to write protocols. A story about a case from a legal practice.

Many people have talents: there are talented actors, there are talented fashion designers and tailors, there are talented teachers, etc.

The head of the firm in which I dealt with legal issues had a common (general) talent of life.

He was born into a middle-class family. Events happened in his life could knock many other people down - from their feet. But he was knocking on closed doors and gates, was knocking on a blank wall, and finally found himself "on the other side of the wall" - where finance means were literally flowing to him.

This man discovered that an organization that owed his company a lot of money had announced the beginning of bankruptcy proceedings. A specialist was appointed to manage the bankruptcy, and the specialist had an assistant.

The head of the firm called these people by phone, collected information about them, and felt that there was no hope of receiving a debt from a bankrupt organization.

I felt that he was wary and wary of these people.

The head of the firm showed me a folder with documents. A creditors' meeting was due to take place in a few days.

The firm he headed was the largest creditor. There were others, but the debt owed to them was scanty, minimal.

The bankruptcy procedure is a very complicated matter. This procedure is regulated by a separate, rather complex legislation.

Apparently, he initially planned to personally go to the creditors' meeting. But something stopped him. He couldn't just to move the case aside and not to take any action to repay the debt.

As a result, he handed me a folder with documents and asked me (me, alone) to go to this meeting.

I didn't like this assignment very much. The address was unfamiliar, at first I could not to understand where this creditors' meeting should take place.

However, in this firm - before this conversation - I had a period of relative freedom from legal worries, and I had to agree.

It seems that I got to this unfamiliar area by public transport (or by taxi).

I remember: the industrial zone, dirty completely empty streets without a single person, high stone walls, tightly closed gates, huge industrial facilities behind the walls and gates, a dark sky from which rain fell (it was either a wet winter or a cold rainy late autumn).

I finally found the right address. Maybe there was a guard at the entrance who let me in. I do not remember.

Not a single person. An empty gloomy yard. A dark, unlit staircase. No one person.

That's the right room. There are two people in the room. They are dealing with bankruptcy.

One of them announces the start of the creditors' meeting. (There was no one but the three of us in this room, or maybe in the whole huge dark building.)

I unbutton my rain-soaked jacket. I present my documents about my rights as a representative of the firm-creditor and ask for the floor.

I am putting to the vote the issue of electing the chairman of the meeting.

Since the largest creditor (whom I represent) has the majority of votes, I choose myself as a chairman.

For those present, events are developing a little unexpectedly.

But I understand that the situation is such that it is better not to rush things up.

I am putting to the vote the issue of declaring a break in the creditors' meeting and of resuming the meeting at the premises of the firm that I represent.

I quickly write (by hand) the minutes (the protocol) of the meeting. Perhaps those present made a copy for themselves.

When I found myself again outside a gloomy, unlit building, on a dirty street, in an unpleasant rain, I thought that this was a very useful skill - the ability to write protocols.

The head of the firm was noticeably surprised, when he received information from me about the event.

The rest is almost forgotten (everything described happened a very, very long time ago). As if some fragments are visible from the fog of the past: have we suspended these people? And have we succeeded in appointing other candidates? The debt has been recovered (in whole or in part) without my participation, by those who managed the bankruptcy?

The firm continued to function. Her head was continuing his business. I continued to receive my salary.

Useful qualities are the ability to navigate the situation quickly as well as the ability to write protocols.
