Casanova in the detox ward. A philosophical essay on new phenomena in a literary creativity.
I recently wrote a "review" (something like an opinion-impression, in written form) on the internet-portal Проза.Ру - after I read three stories about the relationship of a modern (more or less well settled in life) man with girls.
It seems that some texts are on the verge of pornography, but it is interesting to read them.
It is seems, that the author uses material (facts) with which he is intimately familiar. At least, such was my impression.
Indeed, modern life is such that many people look at themselves, at their life, and a surprise is their main emotion.
Some modern representatives of the criminal Russial subculture cautiously touch on the topic of a visits (by one of the Russian classic writers) to a brothel.
The fact that this writer was receiving (during long - infinitely long - time) kopecks for his works published in periodicals, that he did not hear even a one kind word (until Grigorovich, the "literary master", wrote him a positive, approving letter), that this writer fell ill with tuberculosis, that the hardworking, aspiring (to education) family was brought to bankruptcy and was forced to move from her hometown to Moscow, that the talented brother of this writer - a noticeable artist - fell ill with alcoholism, etc. - all this does not (a cause to) surprise anyone.
The entire biography of this classic writer (who died of tuberculosis), the entire history of his family is a story of intense (huge?) labor - efforts, that gave comparatively small financial results.
It is quite natural that this classic writer was looking at the surrounding life, - and works full of humor and irony were appearing from his pen. But the time was such that some details could only be written (be lighted) in personal letters.
And the three modern stories that I read (on the internet-portal Проза.Ру) - they contain funny details about the life of the main character (man) with a young girl: financial details, a details of the young girl's (more or less permanent) infidelities - with her subsequent tellings to the main character (man) about delicate plots, the script of a joint trip to a venereologist (the young girl did not show caution in one of hostels for students), etc.
It's interesting to read. It's not like reading Casanova's diary. I started to look at this diary, read a half of a page, and put this book aside - not interesting to read.
Beyond some point, a human begins to laugh at himself - he is not ashamed of himself, but human ashamed of the environment in which he is forced to live.
Maybe someone thinks that the main character is trapped in some kind of shameful trap?
Nothing like that! He is ready to tell everything about himself in every detail - he is not ashamed - and the public, readers, can see: whether he is guilty of something. Or maybe it's not his fault, and he is not the very person must be ashamed?
All these thoughts came to me after remembering an incident that was told to me a very, very long time ago by an influential provincial journalist.
Everything was different during that period of past - the system of authorities, surnames in this system... But the media - there was such a period after 1991 (several years) - the media were relatively free and influential.
The circumstances were such that this influential journalist not only received well-deserved dividends from his influence, but also wrote on all sorts of different "unpleasant" topics.
And one day he was invited to a reception organized by the provincial branch of a huge state-owned company.
When he said me that the organizers of the reception had made pleasant gifts to invited representatives of the media (it seems they had given beautiful vases) - there was something positive in his voice. (He was a man of the "old days", 'man of the past' and, despite all his life experience, he was a naïve person in some sense).
Then they invited journalists to the set tables: to drink, to have a snack.
Then they shook hands with everyone, thanked representatives of the media for their work, and the journalists went home.
A such a situation then happened. The body of influential journalist malfunctioned. He was walking down the street. His head suddenly became 'spinning'. It's good that he managed to sit down on a step of a some stair. He didn't remember anything further. But other people told him later.
He woke up in a drunk tank (vytrezvitel) (detox ward).
I will not touch on some delicate details so as not to offend anyone.
As a result, a protocol was drawn up. The information about the incident was not officially directed into any organizations (in USSR, as well as some years later, vytrezvitel was sending information on a happened situations to a working places of those, who was delivered into detox ward). They gave him an opportunity to go home without any 'noise'.
And out of a today's situation, out of today's time, I thought: yes, if he had written an ironic story about himself and about this case, then his rating as a journalist would have increased, and his professional reputation in the world of free media would have grown!
But, I reflected further, he would have to try to find a free media.
And they wouldn't coddle him in our time, wouldn't invite him to receptions, wouldn't give him vodka, wouldn't put out a snack.
So the situation is dialectical.
In general, it was interesting to read three modern stories about the life of the author of works (man) with a young girl, about a joint trip to a venereologist, about other cases of pleasure.
The days of Casanova are gone. But literary works of a new type are appearing.
