The ingenious engineer and inventor Kolya Nogin listens to the radio and becomes an academician. A story.

Kolya Nogin graduated with honors from the Trekhrechensk Polytechnic Institute with a specialization in 'Internal Combustion Engines'. He received the rank of second lieutenant, the specialty "internal combustion engine engineer", a red diploma, an Institute graduate badge and was sent at the disposal of one of the high-level leaders.

One day, an unmanned aerial vehicle crashed near Kolya. Kolya quickly identified the type of this vehicle, repaired the damage and launched, again, this vehicle into the air.

After that, Kolya became one of the main specialists of the local workshop, which was engaged in the invention, improvement and repair of various kinds of vehicles, and indeed of (another) various types of necessary devices.

Kolya was not interested in financial matters. Where does the money come from? Who controls financial sources (flows) and a financial turnout? Who is responsible for them and who and how does a financial reports? Kolya was far from these questions.

His topic was technical solutions. He was finding out about a technical problem and was solving it.

Gradually, Kolya gained a technical reputation. Various high-level leaders called him to their organizations and offered to solve a particular technical problem.

One day, Kolya was told that one of the employees of the radio station (a honorary citizen of Yekateringrad) invited a specialist in the modern technical delivery and support, and they talked for half an hour on air about the rapid development of production "on the ground", about new technical solutions. Moreover, almost everything they talked about was invented by Kolya Nogin.

It was nice. It was nice to be a useful, necessary person.

Kolya's work was interesting for him. He regularly received a salary as well as advances for compensations of travel expenses; meals and accommodation were free (both on business trips and in his home organization).

Not very pleasant news came from Natasha (or, rather, from Natasha's female friend). Engineer Brown arrived in the city of Trekhrechensk to resolve issues related to the liquidation of the business. Natasha married him and now sends her female friend postcards from Paris, Oslo, Warsaw and Tehran. And even Marcel Marceau (personally) told her, Natasha, something, - Natasha wrote to her female friend. It was especially unpleasant for Kolya Nogin to find out that this Brown was a doctor of philosophy.

Kolya decided to become a doctor of sciences, or even better, an academician.

Moreover, there is nothing eternal in this world; and if the situation will change, then he will need to look for a new field for the application of his abilities; and in such a situation, a doctorate degree, or even better, the title of academician, will not hurt him.

(Or to search a job at a local car service in Trekhrechensk?..)

During his trips to various organizations (on calls from high-level leaders), Kolya asked, as if by the way, why he did not see academicians, solving technical issues? Their knowledge would be very useful in tense situations...

The leaders - with motionless faces - were quickly uttering some unintelligible words through clenched teeth.

Kolya was solving more and more technical issues, and at the same time he did not have the opportunity to communicate with any academician.

But, at last, he was invited - as a necessary, well-known and well-deserved person - to radio Pionerskaya Pravda for a conversation with a correspondent.

Kolya arrived in the capital, counted his means tor travel expenses and stayed in the most modest hotel. One of his acquaintances, whom Kolya once helped with repairs and with spare parts, handed to Kolya (for a several days) a battered cherry 'nine' ('a ninth model' of Lada cars).

Kolya drove up to the building of the radio station and parked the car on the outskirts of the parking lot.

During his business trips (to various organizations), Kolya had lost the habit to see irresistible smiles and he became defenseless against a huge volume of a female charming. The correspondent turned out to be a pretty, sociable girl, whom Kolya didn't mind getting to know better. With such perspective, in his mind, he readily answered all her questions. The conversation (for the radio) turned out to be interesting - an excellent material for broadcasting on the radio.

Kolya didn't succeed to know the pretty girl-correspondent more closer. But the girl politely invited Kolya to the cafeteria located on the ground floor. In the cafeteria, they could drink a cup of coffee (or tea) and eat a pie (or bun). Kolya ordered coffee and paid for it (at his own expense).

During a brief conversation with the girl-correspondent over cups of coffee, Kolya learned that a program with two presenters was currently being broadcast out of the radio studio. One of these radio hosts is a real academician.

That was good! At last, Kolya will meet a real academician! Kolya, as a necessary, well-known and well-deserved person, will easily become an academician. Then he'll get to know the pretty girl-correspondent more closer!

The girl-correspondent took the elevator with Kolya to the appropriate floor, led Kolya to the glass wall, behind which there was a room from which there was a radio program with the participation of the academician. She showed Kolya which from radio hosts is the academician, and parted with Kolya for executing the next editorial task.

Kolya "caught" the academician at the exit of the radio studio. The academician was walking in the company of a pretty girl, so it was difficult to expect a serious conversation. But in the corridor and in the elevator, Kolya introduced himself and told about own plans and working persspectives. The plans were very promising, so it was obvious that Kolya needed to be the member the Academy of Sciences.

The academician's face was serious during Kolya's stories. He listened attentively to Kolya and asked three questions: "How is the resistance of materials calculated when designing IFVs (individual field vehicles)?", "Is the test center for the designed equipment certified?", "Do you regularly conduct the scientific and technical council?".

Kolya tried to answer the academician as clearly as possible, but at that moment they came up the parking lot. The academician and his girl-companion headed for the Lexus, and Kolya went to the outskirts of the parking lot to his car.

While returning to the hotel, Kolya made plans for the future. Mr. Voldemarkin, a scientific observer for Pionerskaya Pravda Radio, wrote the book "The Intensive Technical Revolution." One of the capital's scientific workers regularly listened to this audiobook for six months, constantly bought batteries near the entrance to the subway (for the radio receiver), and, as a result, succeeded to defend his doctoral dissertation.

Kolya will regularly listen to the audiobook of the scientific observer Mr. Voldemarkin and, so, he will be able to become a member of the Academy of Sciences. And then he will put a pretty girl-journalist in his "TANK" (... "EXEED" ... "HAVAL" ... )...
