The Ruble of Felix Dzerzhinsky (of 1924). An antiquarian story.

The Ruble of Felix Dzerzhinsky (of 1924). An antiquarian story.

Throughout the period of existence of Soviet Russia, vigilance took on a variety of forms.

One day, Yuzefa Adamovna went to the market for groceries.

The verification of documents has begun.

  She showed her passport.

Everything was in order with the passport.

In the column of nationality was "Polish origin".

This record turned out to be enough for the detention and delivery of citizen Zalesskaya to the district police station.

One of the mutual acquaintances was at that moment in the bazaar and informed Vasily Alexandrovich Zalessky (Yuzefa Adamovna's husband) about her detention.

Preliminary phone calls followed on bureaucratic floors and levels, and Vasily Alexandrovich (in military uniform and with a field military bag) appeared in the office of the head of the district department of the workers' and peasants' militia.

They talked about the need to increase vigilance, about the recent local meeting on vigilance.

At last, the conversation turned to the topic of the detention of citizen Zalesskaya.

  - She has 'Polish origin' written in her passport!

  - Well, what is written down!? She was born in Ukraine!

The head of militia had little understanding of historical issues, he thought over the situation. Moreover, he himself, with a high degree of probability, was from neighboring territories.

  - Recently, Dzerzhinsky drove along our railways. We made a report on the organization of work on the protection of lines, bridges, warehouses, storerooms, and other important objects. He was pleased and expressed to us a verbal gratitude. He went out to the platform, walked along it, bought local southern fruits. I later exchanged the Ruble of Dzerzhinsky for other money at the saleswoman.

Vasily Alexandrovich opened a field military bag with many documents: maps, certificates, orders, etc. Dzerzhinsky's ruble was also there.

Such rubles were minted during the period of Dzerzhinsky's management of the Soviet economy. Since February 1924, Felix Dzerzhinsky was the chairman of the Supreme Council of the National Economy of the USSR. According to the design of the ruble, according to the metal from which it was made (20 grams of 900 silver (18 grams of pure silver) - according to such parameters, rubles were minted in the tsarist Russia), it was felt that people with a good basic knowledge, with the understanding of life, with the knowledge of the psychology of the widest circles of the population, started to deal with economic issues ... The 'War Communism' (an invention of Vladimir Lenin) - did not justify himself, left behind himself a feeling of horror and bewilderment, remained in the past ... Dzerzhinsky was de facto approaching the position of Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars (Government). In 1926 he died suddenly.

This coin was minted only in 1924, after which a long period followed when ruble coins were not minted at all. The next ruble appeared only in 1961, and it was already made of a copper-nickel alloy. The ruble of 1924 was the last silver ruble intended primarily for cash circulation.

Further, the conversation continued in an atmosphere of a respect for Dzerzhinsky.

Interlocutors talked about the importance of strengthening vigilance - naturally, with an understanding of the important role of Dzerzhinsky.

The mention of an entry in the passport (about nationality) would be in conflict with this atmosphere.

  - Yes, something did not right turn out ... Duty officer! Give back the passport, release citizen Zalesskaya. We apologize.

  Shaking hands.

Yuzefa Adamovna and Vasily Aleksandrovich headed home.

The Ruble of Dzerzhinsky played a positive role in the negotiations on the release of citizen Zalesskaya, who was detained after the revolution in the market for words in her passport about her nationality.

Everything told is closer to reality, if compared with the works of Homer, who probably never mentioned passports, rubles, railways, or class struggle in his works.

The Ruble of Felix Dzerzhinsky (of 1924) waited until 2022 - now I am compelled to put it up for sale ...
