Over the past 160 years, Almaty has experienced six catastrophic mudflows...
1841. Mud-stone stream rushed through the Small and Big Almatinka rivers, demolishing everything in its path.

And in 1973 this dam detained mudflow with a volume of 5.3 million cubic meters...
When pumps drove water on pipes, the stream did not want to go down on the course prepared behind a dam. The stream began to pull down rocks, trying to rush to ice stadium.
