The problem consisted that when Lenin came to the power, people in Russia began to die of hunger in large quantities. Declarations on commitment to democratic values did not prevent this.
In 1919 according to the order of the U.S. President Woodrow Wilson the American Relief Administration (ARA) was created.
Concerning the activity of ARA in Russia Maxim Gorky wrote to the head of ARA Herbert Hoover "Your help will be entered in history as unique, huge fulfillment, worthy the greatest glory, and for a long time will remain in memory of millions of citizens of Russia... who you saved from death"" (Wikipedia. I do not think that Woodrow Wilson opposed equality of the nations, equality of women, freedom, etc. Moreover, I am sure that he was the convinced supporter of these values.
But as the practical politician he was anxious not about the words, not about disputes, not about the loud announcement of the principles and values. He focused on the practical interests of people - of citizens of the USA and people of the whole world - he in "Fourteen Points" dealt with the difficult practical questions facing the international community.

An independent Polish state should be erected which should include the territories inhabited by indisputably Polish populations, which should be assured a free and secure access to the sea, and whose political and economic independence and territorial integrity should be guaranteed by international covenant.")
In 'Fourteen Points', "A general association of nations must be formed under specific covenants for the purpose of affording mutual guarantees of political independence and territorial integrity to great and small states alike" was mentioned, by the way.
And if Lenin (liking to talk and write about values) created conditions for the mass death of the citizens of Russia, then the practical politician President Woodrow Wilson promoted rescue of millions of lives of inhabitants of Europe.
